Donetsk National Medical University of Maksym Gorky is a powerful higher education and research scientific institution with 82 departments providing training in the field of medicine and pharmacology. As for the end of 2010 Donetsk National Medical University held the 6th place among all universities of Ukraine and the 1st among medical and pharmaceutical universities in Hirsch index (university’s rating in the international science database SCOPUS, Elsevier publishing house) which certifies the high level of University research activity’s efficiency.

The most important component of university research development strategy is to direct researchers to the solution of the high priority scientific problem ssuch as study of regional peculiarities of pathology formation; research on new methods for diagnosing and treatment of diseases; prophylaxis, diagnostics and treatment of cardiovascular, oncological diseases and sugar diabetes; study of central mechanisms of homeostasis regulation; research on molecular mechanisms of reparatory processes and ensuring individual resistance of an organism; improvement of reproductive health using auxiliary reproductive technologies; designing of measure aimed at fighting tuberculosis and HIV epidemics in Ukraine; development of new methods of treating composite injuries, traumatic and burn diseases; researches regarding prospects of stem cells use for treatment of diabetes, hepatocirrhosis, multiple sclerosis, apoplexy, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, restoration of locomotive functions; development of new methods for analysis and researches using measurement of liquids’ tension on mediums’ borders; tissues sewing using B.

Paton electric welding method; use of telemedicine and other computer technologies for providing remote consultations for patients and distance teaching for specialists; search for advanced methods of prophylaxis and treatment of mouth cavity; clinical substantiation of biologically inert materials use in orthopedic dentistry. The research equipment as well as material and technical basis of the University including the Central science and research laboratory meet all the requirements for modern research facilities.
